DESCRIPTION:Bath Choral Society\nBristol Ensemble\nOlivia Boen soprano\nClaudia Huckle alto\nEamon Mulhall tenor\nAlex Ashworth bass\nKatrine Reimers conductor \nChristmas would not be complete without hearing the timeless strains of Handel’s Messiah performed by Bath Choral Society in the magnificent surroundings of Bath Abbey. \nPerhaps most famous for its legendary ‘Hallelujah’ chorus\, the joys and sorrows of Handel’s most popular oratorio embrace more than just the story of Christmas. Like the baby in the manger\, it encompasses “all heaven and earth in little frame.” From the lilting ‘Pastoral Symphony’ as the shepherds watch their flocks to the effervescent ‘For Unto Us a Child is Born’ and triumphant ‘The Trumpet Shall Sound\,’ the work takes us on a profound musical and spiritual journey. \n100 strong Bath Choral Society is the city’s longest standing auditioned amateur choir\, dating back to 1887\, and its tradition of performing this enormously popular work runs back to its very origins.
