SUMMARY:Stardust: A Musical Journey
DESCRIPTION:Following two hugely successful performances in Bath Abbey\, Voices for Life brings Stardust to Wiltshire Music Centre! \nJoin 80 local primary school children as they take you on a musically magical journey through space accompanied by the Bristol Ensemble\, narrated by Jon Monie (Bath pantomime) and directed by Greg Hallam (London Youth Choir). Stardust tells the tale of 6 friends who\, after a disastrous turn of events\, each end up drifting alone through space. We follow their journey as they find their way back to planet Zarg\, discovering all the emotions they experience on their adventure. \nWritten by Jools Scott and Sue Curtis\, Stardust was commissioned by Voices for Life in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In a series of school workshops\, the children have explored these emotions through wellbeing activities and music. Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards future Voices for Life projects\, helping children be happy and confident through singing.

SUMMARY:Fitzhardinge Consort & Bristol Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Ralph Vaughan Williams\nSuite for Viola\nValiant-for-Truth\nFantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis\nLord\, Thou Has been Our Refuge\nSerenade to Music\nCharterhouse Suite\nFantasia on Christmas Carols \nThomas Tallis  Tunes from Archbishop Parker’s Psalter \nSt George’s Bristol rounds off its celebration of Ralph Vaughan Williams in his 150th anniversary year with a special choral and orchestral tribute performed by Bristol Ensemble and the Fitzhardinge Consort. \nThe programme explores different influences on the composer\, from his love of metrical psalms which is clearly evident in his Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Lord\, Thou Hast been Our Refuge – including a performance of the original psalm settings to demonstrate this – to his detailed research around English folk-melodies which form the basis of his popular Fantasia on Christmas Carols\, an opportunity to hear some seasonal music in a different guise. \nThe programme also includes the rarely-performed Charterhouse Suite\, a charming set of dances in the English style\, and the sublime Serenade to Music\, for sixteen solo voices\, setting words from Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice.  Rachmaninov was at the first performance of the work and was so overcome by the beauty of it that he wept. \nTickets are £10 to £30\, available from St George’s Bristol box office online and by phone on 0117 929 4929. A 5% booking fee applies online and over the phone. A £2 postage fee is charged where applicable.
