SUMMARY:Preludes Music
DESCRIPTION:Preludes Music\, the education arm of the Bristol Ensemble\, continues its work in areas of Bristol that are experiencing high levels of economic disadvantage and aims to put music at the heart of every child’s education. By doing so we improve confidence\, co-ordination\, speech and language and benefit all other areas of their learning. \nPreludes Music has been running successfully since 2009 in several schools areas of Bristol. DESCRIPTION:Saxophonist and composer Kevin Figes presents Sound Dimensions\, an ambitious new project featuring Arts Council-commissioned works inspired by three pioneering figures of 20th-century Italian music: Ennio Morricone\, Luigi Nono and Bruno Maderna. \nBringing together the Bristol Ensemble alongside acclaimed vocalist Brigitte Beraha\, bassist Ashley John Long\, electronics artist Gaz Williams and a host of leading jazz\, rock and contemporary classical musicians from across the South West\, the performance blends orchestral textures\, improvisation and electronic sound. \nA composer known for continually expanding his musical language\, Figes marks a bold new chapter with this richly imaginative and genre-crossing work.

SUMMARY:Laurie Lee - The Four Seasons at the Curzon Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Author of Cider With Rosie\, Laurie Lee\, gave very few interviews during his life. David Parker managed to breakthrough that wall\, resulting in a swathe of footage where Laurie Lee talks about his childhood\, his love of music\, and the huge influence of the South West countryside that he grew up in. A rare encounter with a beloved author\, whose work has left an indelible mark on generation. \nLaurie’s poetic musings on the four seasons as experienced in the British countryside\, will be accompanied by the Bristol Ensemble\, fittingly playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and other complimenting works. Interspersing live music with engaging archival film footage of Laurie Lee’s inspirations\, memories\, life and poetry.

Helga Thoene \nThe glow of candlelight sets the scene for an evening of Baroque treasures. Be transported with the dazzling brilliance of J.S.Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5\, the charm and invention of Telemann’s Don Quixote Suite\, the virtuosity of concertos for flute and violin by Bach and Vivaldi\, and the beauty of Bach’s Chaconne in Helga Thoene’s arrangement. \nPre-concert talk with Steve Clarke begins at 6.45pm. Doors open at 6.15pm for the talk and at 7.15pm for the concert only.
