Stephen Hoddell CBE
Our warmest congratulations to our Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Stephen Hoddell, who was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to Civil Society.
Steve Hoddell spent most of his working life at the University of the West of England, as Professor of Engineering, and for many years, Dean of Engineering. His last position at the University was as Pro Vice-Chancellor, from which he retired in 2005. At UWE he was responsible for the introduction of courses in Music Technology, and he taught the Science of Music and of musical instruments.
Steve has volunteered with Samaritans since 1973, and after retiring from UWE he has held a number of roles within the charity, including for the last three years being the Chair of Samaritans covering the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
He plays double bass in the Keynsham Orchestra, and occasionally guests with other orchestras in the area, although his main instrument is treble recorder.
