Work with Preludes Music and Bristol Ensemble
Preludes Music and the Bristol Ensemble are looking for a Community Coordinator to join Symphony of the World, an Arts Council England funded project starting this summer.
Pay: £15/hour, 54 hours over the course of the project (flexible hours but dates below are fixed and non-negotiable)

This is a role that runs from July 2024 until December 2024 to help manage Community Relationships as part of an Arts Council England funded project. You will work within the community to recruit participants for a workshop element of the project, work with local media partners, engage parent volunteers/school representatives and gather evaluation information. You will support the Project Manager and Fundraiser for the duration of the project, and be in regular contact with them throughout the whole project.
Symphony of the World is a community driven project funded by Arts Council England. It brings together three schools and one community group from the Lawrence Hill/Easton areas of Bristol. Through a series of workshops in schools and in the community, working with local professional musicians, a four section Symphony (a piece of music) will be produced, with final performances in Trinity Arts Centre, and St Georges Bristol. This will be a display of music from different cultures and geographical areas showing how they can unite to form one piece of music.
Important Dates (* marks a fixed compulsory date):
- ❖ *10th September – Launch Event to introduce everyone working on the project
- ❖ 16th September to 14th October – Five weekly workshops with people in the community (exact dates to be confirmed).
- ❖ *11th November – First Rehearsal at Trinity Arts Centre
- ❖ *18th November – First performance at Trinity Arts Centre
- ❖ *25th November – Final performance at St Georges Bristol
- ❖ 26th November – 14th December – Gathering project feedback/evaluation for funders.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- ❖ Liaise with the Project Manager to organise recruitment of women in the community for Poetry workshops. You will also liaise with the workshop leader.
- ❖ Engage with local media partners to promote the project and final events.
- ❖ Support community musicians with the day to day management of the project.
- ❖ Recruit school representatives, parent volunteers and community volunteers from the community to support with thefinal events.
- ❖ Attend planning meetings ahead of final events.
- ❖ Attend five workshops in the community and support workshop leader.
- ❖ Attend rehearsals and final events and support smooth running of these.
- ❖ Provide feedback/evaluation and gather this from others involved in the project.
Desirable Skills:
- ❖ Experience of community engagement/liaison.
- ❖ Comfortable with working with a range of different people
- ❖ Proactive in completing tasks
- ❖ Confident working alone with regular support from the team.
The Bristol Ensemble is a Bristol based orchestra founded in 1994 by Roger Huckle. Bristol Ensemble is a collective of specialist musicians that collaborate to provide the highest calibre of performance for a wide range of audiences across Bristol and the South West. Preludes Music is an education outreach initiative dedicated to bringing high quality live music to children who would otherwise be unable to access it. Our programme encompasses activities ranging from individual and small group tuition to whole classroom music lessons, orchestras, choirs, holiday clubs, performance opportunities and a plethora or enriching cultural experiences.
