New BE Contemporary Concert Series Celebrates Modern Composers This Autumn
BE Contemporary is thrilled to announce the launch of its Autumn concert series, made possible through generous support from the Vaughan Williams Foundation and the Francis Routh Foundation. This exciting series showcases some of the most influential works in contemporary music, with performances by celebrated composers including Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Terry Riley, and John Cage. The series also highlights a dynamic lineup of female composers, featuring works by Anna Meredith, Carmen Ho, Hannah Kendall, and Sadie Harrison.
The series kicked off on October 19th 2024, with a successful concert at the 1904 Arts Club. The programme included Steve Reich’s acclaimed Different Trains along with pieces by Hannah Kendall, Anna Meredith, and Carmen Ho. Carmen Ho, who attended the concert, engaged with the audience by discussing her piece, The Way I See, alongside a talk by composer John Pickard.
The next concert, scheduled for November 21st, promises to be a powerful evening featuring Philip Glass’s Company and John Cage’s iconic 4’33” as well as compositions by John Pickard, Sadie Harrison, Carmen Ho, and Thomas Adès.
The series will conclude on December 15th with a performance of Terry Riley’s In C at the 1904 Arts Club. This final event will also include works by Peter McGarr, Ruth Gipps, and Anna Meredith, rounding off a season dedicated to groundbreaking contemporary music.
