Board and Trustee Role

We are looking for new board members for Bristol Ensemble.

Our mission is to share the gift of music-making with all ages, in all communities, in the West of England.

Can you help us in that mission ?

Bristol Ensemble is a registered charity which has been running Bristol’s only professional orchestra for 30 years and taking music into schools in the most disadvantaged areas of the City of Bristol for 15 years. In the last year we have given over 100 concerts and performances, playing to audiences of over 50,000, and worked with 4,000 young people.

THE BOARD AND TRUSTEE ROLE

We are recruiting new trustees to join our Board, in succession to two trustees who are retiring, and to compliment the skills of existing Board members. We are looking for people who share our passion for music-making, with the commitment to helping us deliver our ambitions.

We are looking in particular for experience in the following:

  • Finance, to ensure that the Board and management have accurate and timely financial information, in order to maintain solvency, manage risk and achieve the strategic objectives
  • Music education
  • Fundraising

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance of the charity, working with the Music Director and the Artistic Director to deliver our activities and develop our aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, and our legal and regulatory guidelines.

Bristol Ensemble is passionate about ensuring that the whole organisation represents the diverse communities across the West of England and we welcome applications from anyone who may feel a connection with our work. There is no need for any prior experience as a trustee but candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • A track record of sound judgement and effective decision making
  • Empathy with and a desire to support young people
  • A commitment to promoting diversity and equality
  • The willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort
  • The ability to work effectively as a member of the Board
  • The willingness to support any members of the team, as needed.

The appointment is voluntary, for an initial term of three years, renewable twice. Board meetings are held four times a year, currently on Monday mornings.
