On this Remembrance Sunday, the 100 voices of City of Bristol perform Brahms’ mighty German Requiem, one of the greatest of all choral works with moments of power and resilience, and others of profound tenderness and heartfelt passion.
This deeply human and comforting music, filled with hope and solace, offers a space to honour the memory of those lost in conflict, and to reflect on peace and renewal. The Upper Voices from Bristol Youth Choir join City of Bristol Choir for a performance of Bob Chilcott’s vivid settings of poems by Wilfred Owen. The 5-movement work reflects not only the futility of war, but also themes of beauty, love and the natural world, especially the sun as source of light, life, energy and hope. Two short evocative and popular orchestral works complete the programme.
