When is an Eagle not an Eagle? When it’s a recorder! This amazing instrument is at the heart of Piers Adam’s collection and for the first time a major concerto has been written for it by British composer Howard Moody. This spectacular work, full of majestic melodies and virtuoso acrobatics, is reminiscent of an eagle in full flight.
We also have a world premiere of Peter McGarr’s Ear sness hear inthral, a beautiful work about bees and nature dedicated to the Bristol Ensemble’s principal oboist Imogen Triner. The programme continues with Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, Vivaldi’s Goldfinch Concerto, Gypsy composer Dinicu’s Skylark and Pablo Casals’ Birdsong. This will be an enthralling journey through 300 years of music influenced by the Birds and the Bees!
