Fran Higgs
Originally from Bristol, Fran studied with Richard Crabtree in her formative years before studying with International soloist Rivka Golani at Trinity College of Music with a scholarship.
Fran has always enjoyed a particularly diverse range of work that keeps her always curious to see what is next! She has worked with Royal Ballet Sinfonia, English National Ballet and English Symphony and String Orchestras. She works with chamber ensembles as a guest artist, recently enjoying work with Ceridwen Quartet, and is hoping to set up a quartet focussing on contemporary music.
These days she can more often be found depping in a touring West End pits (Sunset Boulevard, Les Miserables and Titanic) or in the recording studio for numerous projects for BBC, National Geographic, Aardman and Disney, capitalising on the rich network of composers and arrangers in Bristol, when she isn’t working with the Ensemble.
After returning to Bristol from London, Fran found the vibrant scene of Bristol Ensemble and the people within it a joy to work with and be around. After many years in Bristol it is the great diversity of programming, in addition to working with true friends where all personalities are celebrated, that she enjoys the most!
When not performing, she can usually be found trying to befriend every cat that happens to cross her path, furiously knitting her way through jumpers or studying for her Learning and Development qualification.
